Seiko Prospex Alpinist Mechanical GMT Limited Edition 110th Seiko Anniversary

The Seiko Prospex Alpinist Mechanical GMT Limited Edition commemorates the 110th anniversary of the ‘Laurel’ – the first wristwatch made by Seiko. From the Land series of watches, Alpinist was first launched in 1959 exclusively for the Japanese market. However, it became so popular amongst Seiko fans that it was launched globally. The modern Alpinist has an upgraded specification. This includes a longer power reserve of 72 hours and an upgrade to a sapphire crystal.

Case, Dial, GMT, Compass, Strap

Firstly, ever practical, the 39.5mm stainless steel case has a super-hard coating which gives it shine and strong scratch resistance. Secondly, the bezel has a 24-hour display with the arrow tipped 24-hour hand a feature of this watch. The silver dial has the Alpinist’s signature arabic figures and hour markers. Additionally, Lumibrite on the hour markers ensures the dial is legible and easy to read. Similarly, the hands are also coated in Lumibrite. Furthermore, an inner rotating ring displays a useful compass. This is adjusted using a crown located at 4 o’clock. Additionally, a date window at 3 o’clock is a useful feature.

Finally, a practical 3-link bracelet secures the Alpinist to the wrist. Conveniently, a black calf leather strap is also supplied with the watch.

Movement

Water resistant to 20 bars, the Alpinist is a practical timepiece with a casual aesthetic. Equipped with an automatic 6R54 calibre, the Seiko Prospex Alpinist Mechanical GMT Limited Edition is accurate to +25 to -15 seconds per day. This in-house built calibre is the first mechanical GMT movement in a Prospex watch to have a three-day power reserve, allowing tracking of two different time zones at the same time.
